At
the end of 2010, Jean LUCAS (the
clown Mr Wilson)
et Anthony GORIUS,
musician and puppeteer, started work on a new duo. They quickly turned
towards Pupazzi, the Italian tradition of puppets made up of a small
body, and the head of…their puppeteer, allowing them to combine their
two specialities. Up to then, pupazzi had only been used in short and
very static acts, without establishing/developing any character
interaction.
There were therefore various challenges to overcome: giving them more
mobility, developing the contrasts in scale (a pupazzi and an actor,
for example) as well as establishing the interactions between the two
characters, and in doing so, the dramatic framework.
Combining the puppets’ absurd appearance, their clumsy style and the
interaction between the clown-like characters, they take us on a
journey through human, grotesque and comedy. Little Big Men is a series
of hilarious sketches, a mix of incredible acrobatics, of unpredictable
dance steps and of cunning rivalry between two eccentric characters.
